James W. Vanstrom, CPA
James W. Vanstrom, CPA, a graduate of Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois, began his public accounting career in June 1968 as a summer intern with the Jamestown, New York, certified public accounting firm of Blomquist, Halsted & Company. He joined the firm as a staff accountant upon his graduation from college in June 1969. The firm continued as Halsted, Corey & Company upon the retirement of Karl Blomquist in September 1969.
Halsted, Corey & Company, as one of the larger certified public accounting firms in Western New York, served a broad base of clients. Jim became a partner of the firm in September 1980, and upon the retirement of Robert Halsted in September 1981, the firm changed its name to Corey, Fiedler, Johnson & Vanstrom. In January 1985, the death of Dale B. Corey and the ill health of Clair E. Johnson caused the firm to merge with a national accounting firm. Jim served as a partner in the national firm from July 1986 through October 1, 1988, at which time he formed his own practice as a sole practitioner.
In January 1994, Jim joined with Harold L. Brunacini, CPA, in the firm of James W. Vanstrom & Company. Together, he and Harold have continued their strong commitment to serving the needs of the firm’s clients. In addition, Jim continues to perform and supervise various accounting and auditing engagements, as well as provide consulting services to various clients. Jim is also responsible for the overall management of the firm.
Jim is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Buffalo Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. He lives in Falconer, New York, with his wife Jeanne. They have two children Elizabeth Hirz, a Deputy District Attorney in Erie, Pennsylvania, and Emily, a physical education and health teacher at Falconer Central School.
