Jim Jenkins has led the accounting profession for over 30 years and is a two-time Accounting Today Gold Medal Award winner, 2011 America’s Top Accountants Award winner and has appeared in many publications including; The New York Times, FORTUNE Magazine, USA Today, The Detroit News, and The Detroit Free Press. A southeast Michigan native, Jim graduated from the Detroit Institute of Technology in 1976 and became a Certified Public Accountant. Early in his career, Jim encountered a number of clients who failed to file their tax returns. He found he had a special talent for bringing non-filers back into the IRS loop and helping to preserve their assets in the process. His successes with his clients prompted him to author the book, “Failure to File,” which is available in editions for individuals and for tax professionals. Jim worked for two of Michigan’s most prominent accounting firms before opening the doors of Jenkins & Company, P.C. in 1980. The firm has grown its local roots serving Michigan companies and his exceptional expertise has grown his practice nationwide. His years of experience with IRS audits and negotiations can help avoid unnecessary audits and significantly decrease the complexity and anxiety associated with the IRS audit process. Jim also shares his insights and resources with tax professionals around the country through Tax Research Services, Inc., a hotline he created to assist other tax professionals find answers to tax questions. As Jim’s career goes on, he enjoys leaving things in his very capable partner’s hands to enjoy some down time golfing or traveling.
